Philmont man killed by train

SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATING MAN STRUCK BY TRAIN

(2nd RELEASE)

Stockport, NY- Columbia County Sheriff David P. Bartlett reports that the man struck by the Amtrak work train during the early morning hours today has been identified. Next of kin was notified and the individual was Matthew R. Harris, 42 years old, of Philmont New York.

An autopsy was performed on this date by Dr. Bernard Ng at Ellis Hospital. The result of that autopsy was multiple trauma injuries from the impact of the train causing death.

At this time the death doesn’t appear to be suspicious; however, Sheriff’s Office Investigators being assisted by Amtrak Police are continuing to investigate.
